Department of Materia Medica
Materia Medica is the study of the remedies used in homoeopathic treatment. Being one of the most important subjects in the homoeopathic curriculum & as taught in all the years of the B.H.M.S & P.G courses, it has emerged as a major department. The practical application of this subject is taught in the clinics from II B.H.M.S onwards.
The founder Principal of GHMC Calicut, Dr. K.S Prakasam was a Professor of this department. The Department of Materia Medica is a P.G department since 1993/4/5, with six seats annually for MD (Hom) Materia Medica and about 90 doctors already acquired their MD (Hom) till date.

Facilities Offered
The Department has a fully fledged OPD which functions daily from 8 A.M to 1 p.m. It has a very busy IP section, with almost 400 admissions every year, giving adequate clinical exposure to the UG & PG students. An Optometry unit has been functioning under the department every Mondays and Saturdays. The department also has special OP’s in Geriatrics and Paediatrics functioning every Tuesday (8.30 AM to 12 pm) and Thursday (8AM to 12pm) respectively.
For the UG & PG students, a discussion room with projection equipment is available with the department. The PG programme envisages in-depth study of the subject, with regular clinical meetings, seminars, journal club etc...

The PG students have to undergo didatric classes on Journal review, Clinical seminars, Group study, Basic Materia Medica,Book review, , Individual remedies, Rare drugs ,Practice of medicine etc.,
